Show and Access Hidden and Ghost Devices and Drivers in Device Manager

This tutorial will help you to show devices and drivers from programs that are no longer in use. The following steps will be taken to show hidden devices and drivers.

Step by Step

Step 1

In Start menu, Right click computer icon and select Properties option.

In the “System” screen, click Advanced System Settings option

Step 3

System properties window will appear press Environment Variables button under Advanced tab.

Step 3

In the Environment Variables screen, Press New button. New User Variable screen will appear, Enter “devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices” & value of “1 ” then click OK.

Step 4

New variable with changed value has appeared on the window press OK button.

Step 5

From Start, right click Computer option and select Manage. Computer Management window will appear. Select Device Manager in left pane & in menu list click view and select Show Hidden Devices option.

Step 6

Hidden / ghost drivers and devices can be seen in by expanding the each entry; the screenshot shows that disk drivers sub tree has few are faded devices compared to the others.
