How to set, enable, disable Maximum Password Expiration for a User in Windows 7

This tutorial will help to enable or disable password expiration the maximum password age is in days (42 by default).  By default, password expiration is disabled. There are two methods to set maximum password age:

Method 1

Step 1

In start search box type Local Security Policy and press enter.

Step 2

Local Security Policy editor will appear. In the left pane, expand Account Policies -> Password Policy, ,In left pan  then double Maximum Password age option.

Step 3

This security setting determines the period of time (in days) that a password can be used before the system requires the user to change it. You can set passwords to expire after a number of days between 1 and 999, or you can specify that passwords never expire by setting the number of days to 0.

Note: If the maximum password age is between 1 and 999 days, the Minimum password age must be less than the maximum password age. If the maximum password age is set to 0, the minimum password age can be any value between 0 and 998 days. It is security best practices to have passwords expire every 30 to 90 days, depending on your environment. This way, an attacker has a limited amount of time in which to crack a user’s password and have access to your network resources.This option is available for the Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.

Method 2

Step 1

Type Cmd in Start search box and press enter

Step 2

To See the Current “Maximum password age” type net accounts and press Enter.

Step 3

To Disable Password Expiration for All Users type the command net accounts / maxpwage:unlimited and press Enter

Step 4

To Enable Password Expiration – type the command net accounts / maxpwage: 42 and press Enter

Step 5

Close the command prompt.
