Allow Users To Run Only Specified Programs in Windows 7

In case of public or shared folder /system/ drive, if you want to allow users to use only specified programs, this feature will be applicable. This feature will limit the programs which can or cannot be accessed on the computer.

Step by Step

Step 1

In Start search menu, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Note:

Local Group Policy Editor is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.

Step 2

Follow the link User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System.  In System settings, scroll down till Run only specified Windows applications option is seen.

Step 3

Double click the option and Set it to Enabled. In Options section, click on the Show button next to List of allowed applications.

Step 4

Show Contents window will appear which will prompt for list of allowed applications. Type in the applications you want to allow users to run. When done with the list, click OK then close out of Local Group Policy Editor.

    Disregard of these instructions. If they do they will block all Windows applications, the opposite of what we wanted to achieve. You should correct your mistake or remove it. The right choice is to block the programs from “Do not run specified Windows applications.” In which only block the applications you want. if is too late and blocked them all, the solution is to open another account as administrator, restart in safe mode, enter the newly opened account, go to gpedit.msc and undo the process that originally made them all blocked. Deleted applications “and blocked” on and off the lock. Restart and go.
