Automatically Log On a User Account at Windows 7

If security is not the issue then you can configure windows 7 to allow the user to log on without prompting for user name and Password. This tutorial will help you to change or select user for automatically logon to desktop.

Step 1

In start search box, type netplwiz and press enter.

Step 2

To turn on automatic log on for a user account, select the user account. Deselect the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box.

Step 3

Click Apply & Ok button, a automatically log on window will appear

Step 4

Enter the user account password in Password fields. If user has no password, then leave the fields blank. In Confirm Password field enter matching password as in Password field. Press Ok button.

Note: If user account is not password protected then it will automatically log on to that account at startup.

Alternative Steps

1.Check the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box to turn Off automatic log on and press OK button

2.You can also change the User Account for Automatic logon, select check box Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box for previous user and click on the Apply button

a.Select the other user account name from the list of users and press uncheck the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box and press ok button.

Note

When Automatic Log On, Log on screen will not be seen, it will directly jump to the desktop of the selected user account.

• The above steps can be done if you are logged on as administrator account

• If you change the password for the user account you have set to have Windows 7 automatically log on to, then be sure to change it here as well.

• Automatically log setting will put security risk to your computer
